About the Department

The Department of Neurosurgery was created from Department of Surgery on 30th October 2012. The Department is functioning independently with four neurosurgeons providing round the clock cover for Neuro Surgical patients. We receive about 13000 (Approx) Neurosurgical patients every year, out of which 450-500 cases are operated. We have 30 beds and 06 HDU dedicated to neurosurgery, but at any given time, we have about 35 - 40 patients in the ward. About 350 elective operations like brain tumours, brain abscesses, spinal trauma, tumors and congenital lesions etc. are performed every year. The number of patients are increasing every year.

As a neuro surgical unit since last 25 years we have inspired young surgeons to take neuro surgery as a carrier at least 10 neurosurgeons have been inspired by us and are working in different centres in the country and abroad.

It is but natural that we start M.Ch. (Neuro Surgery) course as early as possible. Steps are being taken in that direction.

At present the Department has four faculty members :-

2. Dr. Raman Mohan Sharma - Associate Professor

3. Dr. Mohd. Tabish Khan - Assistant Professor

4. Dr.Zafar Kamak Anjum -Assistant Professor

4. Prof. V. K. Srivastava - (Ex - Professor and Chairman)

We have begun pursuing research on immunotherapy of gliomas in collaboration with biotechnology. It is at a preliminary stage, but the aim is to produce glioma vaccines one day. We are also planning to hold national Symposium/Conference on Immunotherapy of Gliomas which would be first of its kind in the country.

**A seperate building for Department of Neurosurgery

We have acquired a separate building for the Department through UGC grant of Rs Fifty Lacs. We have shifted to the new building since October 2013. There is scope for further upward expansion. When funds are available ,we plan to built a library and seminar hall.

***State Of Art Equipments

We have acquired a separate Operation Theatre dedicated to Neurosurgery. We have equipments like Ultrasonic Aspirator (CUSA), Microscope and Drill for doing a Microneurosurgical procedures. We plan to expand it further by acquiring Neuroendoscope and Neuronavigation. This will help us in improving quality of treatment given to our patients.

We hold Neurocon-2015 (UP & UK) in February 2015. This is prestigious annual conference of UP Neuro Science society under the aeges of Neurological society of India.
