About the Department
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery was created from department of surgery on 30th October 2012. Since the creation of department ,all types of thoracic and vascular surgeries are being done .In 2016 we started the open heart surgery program and since then more than 300 open heart surgeries have been done.In 2018 we signed a MoU with healing little Hearts(HLH) A UK based NGO for partening in development of complex congenital cardiac surgery . In past 2 years we have operated a wide variety of complex congenital cardiac surgeries including infants and neonates <5 kg.In 2019 we started our Video Assisted thoracic surgery Program(VATS) with help of Dr. Ali Zamir Khan,a world renowned Robotic and VATS surgeon.
Recently we have started minimally invasive Cardiac surgery program and have started doing ASD and valve replacement surgeries via right thoracotomy through small incision.with collaboration of our Cardiology and Radiology colleagues we have started peripheral vascular angioplasties.
Over the years our faculty has become experienced in doing complex cardiac and vascular surgeries,another field of our expertise is foreign body retrievals from esophagus and bronchus. We are providing teaching and training to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as we are involved in training of paramedical students like Diploma in Operation theatre management,Diploma in endoscopy management , and Diploma in Physiotherapy. We have applied for starting MCh cardiothoracic course from session 2018-19.
We have OPD's on Tuesday and Friday ,annually we have footfall of 5000 patients in Out Patient Department (OPD) and . Our elective Operation Theatre's are scheduled on Wednesday, thursday,friday and Saturday , we are performing around 400 surgeries per year ,in addition to 70-100 emergency surgeries. We have allotted strength of 42 beds, of which 18 beds are in inpatient department (IPD) ,12 in High dependcy unit(HDU) and 12 beds in intensive care unit(ICU).Most of the times these beds are fully occupied with average 600- 800 admissions per year.
We have three faculty members Dr. Mohd. Azam Haseen working as Associate Professor and Dr Sumit Pratap Singh as Assistant Professor Cardiothoracic Surgery.Dr Mayank Yadav has recently joined as Assistant Professor in our department after completing his MCh CTVS from All India institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS),New Delhi. Our vision for future is to start M.Ch. Cardiothoracic Surgery Course and make our department a centre for excellence where surgeons can get trained in this difficult art of surgery and serve the humanity.
