In keeping with the road map for the future growth of Aligarh Muslim University, Faculty of International Studies has been established to meet the aspirations of the Youth of the seven new departments which have been planned to be established under the new faculty, Department of Foreign Languages (DFL) is the first one to get off the mark.

For the Academic Session 2015-16, the DFL has introduced BA (Hons) & M.A. has introduced in 2018-19, Foreign Languages (Chinese, French, German, Russian, Spanish) with 100 students intake in B.A. (20 students in each Language) & 50 students intake in M.A.(10 students in each language). Subsequently Ph. D programmes will also be offered.

The DFL is envisioned ''to emerge as 'Centre of Excellence' in the Foreign Languages Studies'' with following objectives:-

(a) Build sound foundation for the future growth

(b) Create conducive environment for value based learning

(c) Collaborate with other premier organizations to bring in best practices

(d) Imbibe culture of quality research and innovation

(e) Leverage technology
