About the Department
The department of Psychiatry was established in the year 1992 before that psychiatry used to be a unit within the department of medicine. Three speciality clinics (i) Psycho-geriatric (ii) Child and adolescent and (iii) De-addiction started in the year 2000. Department started Community psychiatry services at RHTC, Jawan from the year 2009.
M.D. (Psychiatry) course was started in the year 2007 and it became Post Graduate Department of Psychiatry. First M.D. candidate passed in the year 2010 and our degree got recognized by MCI in the same year. Ph.D programme in clinical psychology and psychiatry was started from the session 2011-2012 after approval from various bodies of the university. At present two candidates are persuing the Ph.D programme in clinical psychology.
Department is running daily general OPD, three specialty clinics on once a week basis (i) Child and Adolescent Clinic on Wednesday,(ii) Psycho-Geriatric Clinic on Thursday and (iii) De addiction Clinic on Saturday. Community psychiatry services are being provided by a psychiatric team at RHTC Jawan on every Tuesday. Emergency services are provided 24hours on 365 days. Indoor facility for admitting acute patients (both male and female) are available in the hospital.
Department provides consultation services at NAPP hospital on alternate Friday and free services to Mother Teresa charity Centre once in a month.
Department is providing teaching and training to undergraduate medical students , postgraduates medical students, Ph.D students, and Interdisciplinary services to students of Master in Social Work, students of M.A. (Clinical Psychology), students of Diploma in Physiotherapy and nursing students.
The department has facilities of brief pulse ECT (Electro-convulsive therapy) , Biofeedback therapy ,Aversion therapy, Psychosocial therapy e.g. cognitive and behavioural therapy, Interpersonal therapy, family therapy ,Psycho education etc.
There is Psychiatry laboratory with facilities for Lithium, sodium and Potassium Estimation. Facility for Digital EEG and ECG is also available. In addition number of psychometric test for e.g. IQ test, projective tests, personality tests, Neuropsychological tests etc are being done by trained professionals.
