INTRODUCTION:
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College has a distinction of having one of the best medical libraries of India, popularly known as Faculty of Medicine Library. The Library came into existence in the year 1962 with the establishment of the college for 50 MBBS students. Since then the library has been a major source of reference not only for the students of Faculty of Medicine but also for the students of other similar faculties at campus. Initially the library had a collection of few thousands books and periodicals with a few staff members but later the library continued to make progress with the increasing number of the students from time to time.Now the library is a premier knowledge hub with 400+ sitting capacity for the faculty and the students of the JN Medical College,Sir Ziauddin Dental College and School of Nursing.
Faculty of Medicine Library acts as the hub for the students and staff faculty of medicine .It serves the medical community by providing an extensive collection of information sources to support the faculty of medicine research,teaching and patients care missions.It also provides personal assistance to the faculty ,staff and students who have difficulty or complex queries or simply need help finding and using the appropriate resources.The library strives to keep it resources and services current and relevant to the ever-changing landscape of health sciences research.Our most difficult challenge at the moment is to make the transition from the library of past to the library of future(e-library) with limited financial resources.
MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF
THE LIBRARY:
- To provide high quality health information, services and
facilities to medical fraternity using the latest ICT.
- To provide the health information sources & services to the students & staff of S.Z Dental College & Nursing College.
- To provide relevant information and knowledge resources for the students and the staff of Faculty of Medicine .
